Pudi walked the market with us, pointing out each of the dishes, explaining both the ingredients and the cooking method. Date nights, family celebrations, and friend gatherings fill the seats in front of each of the stalls. The Gianyar night market is the place where Balinese from all around the Ubud region dine for a special treat - and it is truly a treat! Stall after stall prepare their specialities from suckling pig to smoked chicken to satay and kebab to veggies and tofu and finally beautiful sweets. (We met at Casa Luna and then were provided a van to take the group to the market.) Gianyar is Pudi's hometown village and as soon as we got in the van and he started to talk about where we were headed, you could hear the pride in his voice. Together with just two other couples (for a total group size of six), our guide Pudi brought us to the night market in Gianyar just outside of Ubud.
